Open Studio Tour A Success

Many thanks to the friends and art lovers who attended our Open Studio Tour November 3 in Kennesaw.   Everyone seemed to have a good time and I certainly did.   It was a beautiful day.  We are especially appreciative to the collectors who chose to acquire new work.   I understand that other artists on the studio tour also had a good day.  I enjoy going on studio tours myself and often do so when traveling.  The image above is of one of my paintings acquired by a collector.

Southern Appalachian Artist Guild National Juried Show

A trip to the mountains of north Georgia in the fall is a visual delight.  In addition to all the festivals, craft shows and particularly nature's show is the opportunity to visit The Art Center located in a former court house in Blue Ridge, Georgia.   note: They are closed on Mondays.  You will be delighted with the quality and quantity of the art work on display.

Accepted art work will be displayed between October 20 and November 9 for the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild National Juried Show.  My collage work From Letters to Words has been juried into this show.  The juror was William Underwood Eiland, Director of the Georgia Museum of Art.

The Art Center address is 420 West Main Street, Blue Ridge, Ga 30513.

Robert Burridge Large and Loose Abstract Workshop

I have long loved the style, design and colors of Robert Burridge and his abstract art.  When I found out that he was doing a workshop in Norcross at Kudzu Art Zone I knew I had to attend.   His appearances in the South are limited.  My friend and fellow mixed media/abstract artist Lynn Edwards and I made the trip each day.  It was worth every minute and every dollar  to attend this workshop. Bob uses collage in his pieces as support to the design, with paint being primary.  You can see his work at RobertBurridge.com

So many tips, so much information and so much inspiration.    I want to direct more energy to abstract painting again as my recent emphasis has been mixed media.

This is my latest acrylic painting. My favorite colors.

September Marietta Square Artist Market

Come to the Marietta Square and browse the booths on Mill Street on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays in September from 9 AM to 2 PM.  My friend Karen Snider and I are showing our original traditional and contemporary art in the casual outdoor atmosphere of a street fair.

The Marietta Farmers Market on the square adds the opportunity to purchase everything from flowers to fresh made bread.

We would love to have an opportunity to visit with you and show you our art work.  It is a great way to spend a fall Saturday morning.  The holiday season is coming and it is never too early to get started or just to look for something for yourself.

Artists of Northwest Atlanta Second Annual Studio Tour

 Sat. Nov. 3, 2012, from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

I am looking forward to participating in an open studio event on Saturday November 3 in Kennesaw with four talented artists who have been busy creating art in various media.  Three guest artists (Karen Snider, Betty McGlamery and I) will join Lynn Edwards and Dinah Rose at their great studio space at 2931 Lewis Street in Kennesaw (easy to find across from the First Baptist Church on Main Street).   Lynn, Dinah, Karen, Betty and I will be offering original paintings, prints, wall hangings and tapestries, jewelry, and other hand crafted items.  There will be something for every budget or for you to just enjoy visiting and looking at the art.

All the participating artists at the various locations (Kennesaw, Smyrna, Marietta, Roswell, Woodstock, and Powder Springs) would love to have you visit their studios.  There will be a link soon to the artist names and map of studio locations.  Check back for an update.  Meantime you can see the blog at artiststudiotournorthwestatlanta.blogspot.com.

We would love to see you and show you the art work we have created.  There will be light refreshments and a casual atmosphere.  A portion of the sales at this location will be donated to the Cobb County Human Society and at each studio location to a rescue organization to help animals.

Come and See

My collage Autumn Symphony can be viewed at the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art (a block from the Marietta Square) through March 25, 2012.  This work is included in the 8th Biennial Juried Exhibition Art of the Golden Generation presented by The College of Continuing and Professional Education at the Kennesaw State University Center for Active Retirement Education.

My abstract and collage work is now available at DuPre's Antique Market just off the Marietta Square in the Art Forum section of the store.  I am sharing space with Karen Snider.  Please stop in and view our work.  The first Friday evening  of each month beginning in April Marietta has an art walk.  This is a fun time on the square with lots of art, restaurants and music.  Come and enjoy.
